Booking Appointments
To book your first appointment, contact us by phone, email or online via “JANE.”
Do I book an assessment or a treatment?
If you have never been to the clinic before, or it has been longer than 9 months since your last visit, be sure to book an assessment for your first appointment. This allows enough time for your therapist to take a really good look at your body and to start your personalized treatment plan.
Follow-up appointments are called treatments. Follow-ups are scheduled for 45minutes and no other clients are booked in your time. We only see one client at a time.
It’s highly recommended that you book your assessment and two treatments in advance to ensure you can access the times that work best for you.
What if I’m late?
Every effort is made to start and end appointments on time. If you’re late for your appointment, your time with your therapist will be shortened to avoid delaying those scheduled after you.
What if I need to cancel?
24 hours notice is required to cancel an appointment. A $45.00 fee is charged for any late cancellation or no show. This amount must be paid before any further appointments can be booked.
I’ve been doing physio somewhere else. Do I still need to book an assessment?
Every time you see a new therapist or come for a new concern (ex. different body part) you should have an assessment. This ensures that there is enough time for your therapist to properly hear your concerns, look at your body and work with you on your goals.
Do I need a doctor to refer me?
Physiotherapists are direct-access practitioners, meaning patients can visit directly without waiting for a physician referral. However, a few insurance companies may still require a referral before they will pay for the service.
What happens at your appointment
Please arrive 5-10 minutes before your first appointment. Your first appointment will last 60-75 minutes and all appointments are offered in a private room.
What should I wear?
Please wear or bring suitable clothing that allows you to move easily or exercise for each visit.
Do I need to have an internal pelvic exam?
An internal exam really is the best way to evaluate what’s going on in this part of your body. However, we will work with you wherever you are most comfortable, and that may be externally to start.
When your pelvic floor muscles are assessed internally, your therapist can gather the most information to help you with the best possible treatment plan.
We understand any hesitation you may feel! We’ll discuss these issues with you thoroughly before doing anything.
Can I bring my baby or my children to my appointment?
Although we welcome children if they need to come, we would love for your physiotherapy appointment time to be used just for you—it’s a great opportunity to nurture your body and yourself. (This is especially true for busy, modern people and that includes moms and parents!) That being said, we know how tricky it can be to find childcare – we don’t want that to be a barrier to your visit. We also value opportunities for parents and small babies to stay close in those first months, so babies under 6 months are indeed welcome and expected. Please keep in mind that your appointment does have a specifically scheduled timeframe. If you need to spend time caring for your baby during your treatment, we will do our best to work with you but we cannot extend your time.
How long will I be in the clinic?
Initial assessments take 60-75 minutes.
Follow-up treatments take 45 minutes.
Where do I park?
We’re located within the wellness centre portion of the Lucina Centre. Access our office on the west side of the building.
There’s free parking on the street to the south and to the west of the building. Please park in the proper direction of traffic and avoid the corner as the streets are closely patrolled.
*Please do not use the small parking lot and side entrance located on the north west side of the building. These are reserved for people in labour who are birthing at Lucina.
Taking care of your forms
After booking your first appointment, your intake, medical history and consent forms will be emailed to you from our booking program JANE.
To maximize your assessment time, please fill out all forms in advance ONLINE. It’s also important that you understand and are able to consider and consent to your treatment, so please review the consent forms prior to your arrival.
If you DID NOT receive the online intake forms, please email: appointments@nurturancehealth.ca.
Physiotherapy fees and coverage
Do you offer direct billing? Is physiotherapy covered? Do I have to pay?
